Five children died of burn injuries in Sadiqabad, some 45 kms from here on Thursday morning. According to police sources, the tragic incident occurred in the area of Nawazabad in tehsil Sadiqabad where children of growers were playing in the sugarcane field where the stubble had been set on fire to clear the fields-as in routine practice before any new crop's cultivation.
However, fast winds spread the blaze in a wider area setting the children's clothes afire. Concerned police of Thana Bhong said five children playing nearby died of burn injuries on the spot before any medical aid could be given to them. Those killed were identified as-Zawar (8) Nazia (10) of grower Ghulam Farid, Asia Bibi (11), Azad (7) of Ikhlaq Ahmed and Jawad Ahmed (6) of Arshad Ahmed.
