Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi, who himself escaped a terrorist attempt on his life last year, Thursday reiterated the firm commitment of the government to uproot the menace of the extremism and terrorism from the country. He was talking to a group of Shia Ulema led by Chairman of Aalmi Amn Ittehad Council Allama Mushtaq Hussain Jaferi who called on him here.
The minister strongly condemned the recent spate of terrorism especially the tragic incident that took place during the Chehlum procession in Karachi and claimed lives of several innocent people. He termed the incident as a conspiracy against Islam, which is a religion of peace, brotherhood, harmony and tolerance. He deplored that the enemies of Islam were all out to distort the real face of Islam in the name of 'Jehad'.
Kazmi was of the view that the terrorist acts during the Ashura and Chehlum processions were aimed at fanning sectarianism. However, he said patriotic citizens have recognised the real faces of these anti-Islam elements and hoped that they would play their due role in foiling the nefarious designs of such elements.
The minister assured the delegation that the government is fully committed to fighting against the militants with collective efforts and co-operation of the general public. He said the government would soon succeed in eliminating terrorism from the country. He also appealed the Ulema to come forward and join hands with the government for achieving this sacred cause.
