Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi on Thursday said that development of Management Information System (MIS) for water and sanitation would provide regular connectivity to all relevant institutions and organisations working in this area.
He stated this while addressing to the participants of consultative workshop 'Establishment of MIS for water and sanitation sector and launch of WATSAN website' jointly organised by Environment Ministry and UNICEF here.
He said that the initiative would help monitor the progress towards meeting the millennium development goals in line with framework given in the national drinking water and national sanitation policies. The minister said the launching of website would facilitate easy access to all existing water and sanitation information to the general public at one spot.
He said the data warehouse established at the ministry for analysis, decision making and allocation of the budgets for WATSON schemes. The information would be used for implementation of policy, plans and programmes by all tiers of the government, he added. Hameed Ullah Jan said that MIS would be administered by the ministry and would be shared with all stakesholders to enhance planning and operational efficiency of the government in knowledge management and decision making.
He said the website would contain all related policies and documents to facilitate government, civil society organisation, planners, researchers, students and the general masses in water and sanitation sector. Director General Environment Javed Ali Khan, UNICEF representative and others also spoke on the occasion.
