Karachi blasts: City Council demands arrest of culprits

City Council, through a resolution, on Thursday, demanded the immediate arrest of the terrorists, who were involved in twin blasts in the city, which left over 30 people dead and many injured. Through the resolution passed unanimously, the house condemned the blasts at Nursery Bridge and Jinnah Hospital, saying it was a conspiracy to inflame sectarianism in the city.
In a special session of the house, which was held at City Council Hall at Old KMC Building with Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, in the chair, the house also approved five other condolence resolutions unanimously at the demise of Muhammad Arif Shabbir, UC Naim-2 Saddar Town, Ajmal Khatak leader of Awami National Party, and Irshad Ahmed Haqqani, senior journalist.
Through a resolution the house also expressed their deep grief over the assassination of Muhammad Khalil, Nazim Union Council-10 Sadar Town, and a member of City Council, who had come to Jinnah Hospital to help the injured people of the first blast. At the outset of the session, which was started at 3:30 PM, convenor Nasreen Jalil, said that the terrorist attacks in the city for the last two months were the matter of serious concerns and those who are involved in such heinous acts should bring to justice.
While paying tribute to the deceased member of the house, she said, Khalil, was a friendly and social man, as at even the last movement of his lives he was serving the injured people at Jinnah Hospital where he himself had come under the second terrorist attack. She said that the Khalil was killed, while he was donating blood for the injured of Nursery Blast on February 5, by the terrorists, saying that it was great loss of the house as well as the city.
Asif Siddiqui, leader of the house, while condemning the terrorist attacks, said that the terrorist elements are coming from tribal areas and Afghanistan. They were trying to end the peaceful environment of the metropolis. All political and religious parties are needed to act jointly against these elements who through the twin blasts have conveyed the message that they were free to inflict heavy losses to the city.
Terming the terrorists as mercenaries, Jumman Darwan, deputy parliamentary leader of Awam Dost panel, said that these people were playing havoc with the innocent people across the country. He said what whom the Taliban was fighting against, in Pakistan as there were no Americans, Jews or Indians.
The victims of these attacks were purely Muslims as well as Pakistanis, he said adding a joint effort to fight the element was needed to root out the mercenaries. Shamim Mumtaz, an opposition member, also condemned the terrorist attack on the innocent mourners including the Khalil, who was an important dedicated member of the house, while demanding the immediate arrest of those who were involved behind the blasts.
Dr Zia, another member from the opposition benches said that the acts of terrorism across the country were the outcome of wrong strategy of the country's dictatorial leadership who used the same element in Afghan War. Wali Khan, leader of ANP, who had warned the Ziaul Haq, former dictator that the involvement inside Afghan through using our own people would cause a serious threat to the nation in future, he added.
Imran Bakpati, of Alkhidmat group said as the law enforcement agencies have failed to provide security to the people, the government should first improve the security system in the country. Those who paid great homage to the deceased member of the council were Salman Mujahid, Waqar Ahmed Shah, Nasir Ajmeri, Syed Irshad Ali, and others. Later, the convenor put off the session, to meet again on February 15, at 3:30 pm.
