The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, is making conscientious efforts to provide state-of-the-art educational, research, residential and sports facilities to its students and staff, thereby enabling them to excel in their professional domains, said Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while inaugurating the Annual Sports Gala 2009-10 organised by Faculty of Veterinary Sciences here at cricket stadium.
While appreciating and terming the efforts of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences as role model for other faculties, he said that such healthy activities needed to be held on regular basis by all faculties, and inter-faculty sports events would bring closer to each others.
Dr Khan said that facilities offered by UAF could be compared with any university of the modern world. "I am proud to say that our facilities are second to none of advanced countries and our students may consider themselves more comfort than in European countries" he added.
He lauded the contributions of the Chairman of Sports Board, Dr Muhammad Sarwar, in laying a firm foundation of sports facilities. He said that three basketball courts of international standard have been constructed and the same number of cricket grounds have been prepared, with floodlights, enabling the students to keep them busy in sports, even in odd hours.
He asked the girls to take active part in the sports as UAF administration is on the way to become gender-free in all ways of life. "We have established a modern gym in the female hostel, and are determined to provide them a swimming pool shortly" he added.
Later, he opened the games by batting against the bowling of Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Dr Laiq Ahmad Lodhi. The inaugural match was played between students of 8th and 10th semesters of DVM. The sports gala comprises cricket, football, tug of war, and races, particularly three-legged race.
