13 Feb, 2010

Businessmen in a meeting at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) urged the government to take urgent measures for revival of sick Industrial units. Chairing the meeting, ICCI Vice Presidents, Karim Aziz Malik and Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari said that a large number of industrial units were lying sick in the country which they said was a great loss to economy.
They were of the view that these sick industrial units have blocked investment worth billions of rupees besides rendering thousands of skilled and semi-skilled workers jobless.
They said government should involve experts to identify the causes that led to the sickness of large number of industries and make a comprehensive strategy to solve the problems for early revitalisation of ailing industries. The ICCI vice presidents said revival of sick industrial units would accelerate the pace of economic activities in the country as it will improve productivity, enhance exports, provide more jobs and increase tax revenue of the government.
