The Members of Faisalabad District Bar Association (FDBA) observed complete strike here on Monday on call of Supreme Court Bar Association to express the solidarity with the Supreme Court and show the resentment against the government decision of appointing judges against the recommendations of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
After abstaining from local courts, the lawyers took out a big protest rally and marched from district court to Chowk Clock Tower. The lawyers' procession led by S M Iqbal, President District Bar Association and Vice President Syed Safdar Bokhari terminated at main gate of the district court after parading through Katchery Bazzar. Earlier, a general house meeting of the District Bar Association chaired by S M. Iqbal, President DBA was held in Kiyani Hall. In the meeting, lawyers expressed their complete solidarity and cohesion with the judiciary and rejected the decision of the government for appointment of judges without consulting the chief justice of Pakistan.
Addressing the meeting, S M Iqbal said that the government decision regarding appointment of judges was an unconstitutional decision and the lawyers community completely rejected this decision. He said that the lawyers offered great sacrifices for restoration of Chief Justice Muhammad Iftikhar Chaudhry and other deposed judges of the apex and high courts and they would not hesitate to offer more sacrifices for the supremacy of the judiciary.
They demanded of the government to immediately withdraw the presidential notification about the appointment of judges and asserted that the judges of apex court be appointed in consultation and consensus with the chief justice of Pakistan.
