In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the three-day polio immunisation campaign started from Monday. Over 500,000 children of the age of up to five years would be immunised with the anti-polio vaccine and vitamin A drops during the drive which would continue until February 17, official sources told APP here.
Elaborating, the sources said that a total of 2179 mobile paramedical staff teams had been formed and whereas 327 fixed units and 117 transit points at prominent public places including buses and wagons stands have been set up in all ten districts of Azad Jammu Kashmir including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Hattiyan, Neelam valley, Kotli, Bagh, Sudhanoti, Haveili, Bhimbher and Rawalakot to administer the anti-polio vaccine drops during the three-day drive in entire Azad Jammu Kashmir.
The sources said the State Health Department has arranged about 700,000 anti-polio vaccine doses for the entire three-day campaign across AJK. The fixed centers, the sources added, have been set up at the hospitals, basic health units, rural health centers as well as various other spots to vaccinate the children with the anti-polio drops. The total staff involved in the drive including mobile teams comprising over 4000 workers, would visit door to door to immunise the children of and under 5 years of age during the nation-wide campaign throughout Azad Kashmir.
Eighty-nine zonal supervisors will look after the campaign being conducted by 208 in charges of different areas in AJK. Beside, the parents may get their children fed with the anti-polio vaccine at the fixed centers nearest to their homes. The sources said that no case of polio disease to any child was detected in Azad Jammu Kashmir.
