The Punjab government will spend Rs 4 billion on face lifting of small and middle cities and expansion of link roads in Punjab, Business Recorder has learnt. Official sources on Tuesday said that under the plan Rs 2 billion would be spent on the provision of basic amenities in the ignored and neglected cities. The basic concept of this programme was to bring these neglected cities at par with the developed parts by ensuring basic facilities to the residents of the area.
Similarly, Rs 2 billion would be mobilised on rehabilitation and reconstructions of link roads aimed at linking these cities with other districts and lessen the travelling difficulties of the dwellers. The programme would not only help improving the existing infrastructure but also generate employment opportunities in these cities.
The Punjab government has focused its attention on developing the far-off and ignored cities for bringing changes in life style of the people and to remove the impression of deprivation. According to the sources, work on both the projects would be undertaken in small and middle cities of the Punjab at the same time.
