Construction of Pakistan Deep Water Port: KPT chief warns against hindering fishing, shipping activities

Chairperson KPT Nasreen Haque has taken notice of the problems faced by the fishermen and has directed that work on the Pakistan Deep Water Port (PDWP) be conducted in a manner that fishing and shipping activity remain unhindered. This she stated while witnessing dredging operations onboard KPT's dredger TSHD "Abul" along with a team of senior officers and concerned staff, said a statement of the KPT on Wednesday.
The marine related infrastructure and ongoing mega projects of KPT were inspected and on the spot directions given to expedite the work by making optimum use of the calm weather prevailing in the Arabian Sea.
The Chairperson witnessed details of the dredging operations and was informed that TSHD "Abul" had excavated about 8.5 million cubic meters of dredged volume ever since its induction, comparing it to the cost of commercial dredging, it was felt that the dredger has already paid back its investment and is an extremely productive asset. She was briefed by the Deputy Conservator on marine buoys, pilotage and issues related to ships calling the port.
The need for timely and strict monitoring of navigational aids was emphasised. The progress on the dredging and reclamation work in the PDWP reconstruction of the berths 10-14 and removal of debris was specifically checked. She was also apprised on the expected new look of the marine protection works. The Chairperson expressed satisfaction over the pace of work of the debris removal from berths 10-14 and deepening and widening of the approach channel.-PR
