A Memoran-dum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the material research laboratories, University of Peshawar (UoP) and Peshawar Medical College (PMC) on collaboration of research and postgraduate education between the two institutions in general and that of mutual common areas in particular within the country in order to strengthen bonds of multidisciplinary fields in the related subjects.
The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor UoP, Professor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan and Principal Peshawar Medical College Professor Dr Najib ul Haq. The MoU is intended to be effective for ten years and both the parties will appoint liaison officer who will hold periodic meetings to work out the details of co-operation on such terms and conditions as agreeable to both the parties to monitor their implementation and prepare reports.
Speaking after signing of MoU Professor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan VC UoP said that under the MoU, UoP and PMC would exchange training, technical personnel for teaching, research, postgraduate education, public education and development and will be holding joint conferences, seminars and symposia workshops in relevant areas.
He added that there is fair bet of research work going on at UoP but the limiting factor is the lack of publicity and external exposure for the researchers' work. He termed the role of media as very important in highlighting the work of young scientists so that their work is publicised, which would give them due motivation to excel in his or her relevant field of interest.
He appreciated the initiative taken by Professor Dr Yaseen Iqbal for and urged the need to bring more and more relevant institutions for mutual co-operations. Professor Dr Najib-ur-Rehman, Principal, PMC, said that it is a matter of honour for him to initiate a joint programme with UoP where he once was a student.
He added that UoP is parent institution for the post-graduates students and professionals in NWFP and adjoining areas and its resilient alumni is the real strength. This is the time for the alumni to at least give some of the services back to the parent institution as a token of thanks he added.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Professor Dr Muhammad Riaz Khan, Director Centralised Resource laboratory, Professor Dr Inayat ur Rehman Dean PMC, Professor, Dr Fazal ur Rehman Sethi, Director Institute of physics and electronics and Professor Dr Yaseen Iqbal of Material Research Laboratory.
