Punjab University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that in addition to continuous improvements in professional studies, the varsity is providing conducive environment to students for their maximum participation in healthy sports activities for harmonious grooming of their personalities.
He was addressing prize distribution ceremony of Hailey College of Commerce Sports and Cultural Mela 2010 here in New Campus on Saturday. Principals Hailey College Dr Liaquat Ali and Law College Shazia Qureshi were also present. Dr Mujahid Kamran said only students who are fully equipped with modern knowledge and skills and also possess sound mind and physique can contribute to the country's economic progress and social development.
The varsity is extending all possible financial assistance as well as sports facilities to the students community to help them excel in sports and other extra-curricular activities. Congratulating the girls students after awarding them gold medals on their excellent performance in sports and cultural events, the vice-chancellor said it was a positive sign that the female students are also excelling in games. He commended the efforts and hard work of the faculty members, which enabled the students to give extraordinary performance in sports and cultural activities.
He said games and sports were neglected in the past, however, as a result of encouragement and provision of required training facilities, the students have started demonstrating the proof of their sporting capabilities. He expressed the hope that they would even perform better in future events. Earlier, the Principal Hailey College of Commerce Professor Dr Liaquat Ali, presenting the welcome address, said that the girls students have displayed exemplary performance in both the intellectual and extra-curricular activities.
