03 Mar, 2010

A full bench of Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed re-filing of a petition seeking return of foreign assets owned by Pakistani politicians including PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, its MNA Ahsan Iqbal, former chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and his son Chaudhry Moonis Elahi.
The LHC had already sought comments in the petition from federal and provincial governments. Petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafri also demanded registration of FIRs against former president Pervez Musharraf and former prime minister Shaukat Aziz for looting national wealth.
Making party to various famous lawyers and jurists including Dr Babar Awan, Malik Muhammad Qayyum, Abdul Hameed Dogar, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Wasim Sajjad and Sharifuddin Pirzada, the petitioner accused them of obtaining huge fees on the pretext of influencing judges. The petitioner said they all should be fully taxed and penalties imposed on them for tax evasion.
Jafri further requested the court to direct the Federal Board of Revenue and all anti-corruption departments to employ lie detector on all the respondents as they always tell a lie even under oath on Quran. Former president Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari and Ms Fauzia Gilani, wife of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, were also made party in the petition. The petitioner also sought the court directions to utilise the building of Punjab Governor House for setting up a non-profit international university.
