The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) has decided to acquire the facility of Pakistan Education Research Network (Pern) to help students and its members get access to global advancement in the field of accountancy.
According to sources, the facility would help ICAP students and members benefit from the work of leading local, international publishers and universities' research material through a digital library for students and members at ICAP offices, workplace and home through video conferencing.
In addition to this, the facility would ensure availability of international seminars, lectures and other events at ICAP offices, workplace and home through video conferencing. They said ICAP members would be able to watch live "world accounting congress," which is scheduled to be held in Malaysia, in ICAP Auditoriums at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
They said the institute has also planned an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package with intention to ensure 100 percent integration of processes to produce timely, reliable and effective information for better decision making.
A task management system is being implemented to track of the queries and communications by the members for better monitoring. To facilitate its members residing in various foreign companies, ICAP is seeking to enter into mutual recognition agreement with reputable institutes like Hong Kong, Canadian and Australian Institutes of Accountants.
ICAP President Abdul Raheem Suriya said the council of the institute is working to formulate long-term plans or to devise strategy for upcoming four years "meet your representatives" sessions in Multan, Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad. "The purpose of these sessions is to provide a platform to students and ICAP members for sharing ideas, thoughts and views," he added.
He said ICAP has upgraded IT infrastructure by deployment of 2 MS fiber optic connectivity, which would benefit the institute in holding committee meeting and CPU activities online. He said Education and Training (E&T) Committee of the institute is working to revise the syllabus in accordance with WAG and international best practices to achieve mutual recognition with leading institutes.
