Seminar on 'Good Governance in Educational Institutions' held

Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Professor Dr Nazir Mughal has said that good governance opens new intellectual space and it is essential for educational institutions for peace and progress and urged that time has come that every one have to play its due role for education development in the country.
He was presiding over one-day seminar on Good Governance in Educational Institutions, Conflict Resolution and Career Counselling and Time Management" organised by the Department of Public Administration, University of Sindh in collaboration of Junior Chamber International (JCI) at Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium of Arts Faculty Building.
The Vice Chancellor said that good governance is hot topic of today in the 21st Century and added that good governance plays a vital role in the well-being of the mankind. He said that the recently 180 countries throughout world are following principles of good governance set by the United Nations.
He said that good governance is not government and governance is different from the government and added that good governance is process of solutions, make important decisions and hold accountable. He said that the good governance may be applied different concepts among the world and added that the good governance is discussed globally around the world today.
Dr Mughal said that civility, society, media, history, culture, business, institutions, and governments are part of the good governance. Dr Mughal said that more emphasis of the concept of good governance is that good governance as civil society, as organisation play a excellent role for the public interest.
He said that direction and strategic vision are also very essentials for the good governance and added that effectiveness, efficiency and accountability and transparency and fairness are essential part of the good governance. Dr Mughal said that rule of law is major part of the good governance and according to it every man is equally responsible.
He said that good governance works on principles which are legitimacy and voice and added that that good governance in education is important and added that its actors may be teacher, students, employees or the administration. The Vice Chancellor while responding demand of teachers of the department for up-gradation it as institute, said that I am favour of it but the existing institute should also deliver up to the mark.
The Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr Parveen Shah speaking on the occasion said that good governance has gained significant attention in the world especially in the last decade and added that in recent years good governance has attracted the attention of economists, political scientists, lawyers, politicians, national institutions and international institutions like World Bank and IMF. Dr Shah said that governance is the instrument of political, economic and administrative authorities to manage national affairs.
She said that in good governance countries, the working conditions are generally more favourable for providing protection and guarantees for investors. The Chairperson of the department Dr Zareen Abassi, Faculty members Professor Khalid Noor Panhwar, Professor Aftab Mangi, Professor Shabir Shaikh JCI President Irshadullah Khan and others also expressed their views.
