Corps Commander inaugurates 'green gala'

05 Mar, 2010

Corps Commander Multan Lieutenant General Shafqaat Ahmad inaugurated a ten-day 'green gala' plantation drive by planting saplings at two different places in the cantonment area on Thursday. While speaking on the occasion, the Corps Commander said that planting a sapling was 'Sadqa-e-Jaaria' and their protection and follow up care was collective responsibility.
The wife of Corps Commander Lieutenant General Shafqaat Ahmad also planted a sapling at Haidar Line area. Excessive cutting of trees and no new plantation has triggered unhealthy changes and the phenomenon was gradually taking its toll, Corps Commander observed with concern.
Garrison headquarters Multan was organising the drive for which the Cantonment Board Multan (CBM) procured around 10000 seasonal and fruit saplings, says a release issued by ISPR. The process of distribution of saplings has begun at different places in cantt area, while a mobile nursery will also distribute saplings at door steps free of cost.
