Pakistan along with other members of world community will celebrate Women Day 2010 with the theme "Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All," on Monday. Aurat Foundation to mark the occasion plans to hold a "Women's Assembly on Political and Constitutional Rights of Women" on Tuesday. Sindh Minister for Women Development Touqir Fatima Bhutto will be the chief guest at the daylong ceremony.
The programme will begin with an elaborate presentation on the backdrop that led to designation of March 8 as Women's Day. Women Assembly to be convened immediately after introduction of the ceremony would focus on success stories of women followed by Tribute to Women of Sport, with the theme Icon of the Year.
An elaborate discussion on "Are we moving ahead? Why have the women lagged behind and how was present extremist mind-set developed?" will be the hallmark of the day. Women pertaining to different fields as politics, education, literature, community development will make their respective presentations on the occasion.
It will be followed by a theatre, sponsored by Unicef, on Girl Child Enrolment in Education. Women poets will recite their poems about women issues. In the end recommendations about "How can Pakistani Women Get Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities" will be presented. The programme will include a discussion and tribute to women of sport will also be paid under a session to be termed as "icon of the year." These will be followed by Theatre on Girl Child Enrollment in Education and Violence Against Women.
