Pakistan Muttahida Kisan Mahaz (PMKM) has urged all the segments of the society to devise a strategy for launching an organised movement against India on violating the Indus Basin Water Treaty and depriving Pakistan from its share of the river waters.
In a statement issued here Saturday, PMKM Chief Ayub Mayo called upon lawyers, students, teachers, trade unionists and leaders of the civil society to rise against India to save Pakistan from water crisis which may lead to economic, power and defence crisis.
PMKM President, while accusing India of violation of Indus Basin Water Treaty, said that India was using far more water than its share. He also alleged that Pakistan's ministries of Water and Power and Food and Agriculture were not telling Pakistani nation the real picture and real figures of Indian water stealing. Mayo said that over 37 million acres of Pakistan's land was irrigated from Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh rivers and it was about 70 percent of the total area under cultivation.
