A John Carew hat-trick helped Aston Villa come back from a 2-0 halftime deficit at Championship (second division) Reading to claim 4-2 victory and a place in the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday.
Reading, the last remaining non-Premier club in the competition and in the last eight for the first time in 83 years, deservedly led 2-0 as Shane Long scored twice against a sluggish Villa team seemingly suffering a hangover from last week's League Cup final defeat by Manchester United.
However, Villa roared back with three goals in 10 minutes after the break. Ashley Young started it before Norway striker Carew added two to complete the turnaround and then finish things off with a stoppage time penalty. Villa will discover their Wembley semi-final opponents later on Sunday after holders and favourites Chelsea play Stoke City in the last quarter-final. Portsmouth are through having beaten Birmingham City 2-0 on Saturday while Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur need a replay after their goalless game at Craven Cottage.
