Police say heavy snowfall in parts of Germany has led to more than 2,000 accidents and a deadly avalanche over the weekend. At least seven people have been killed and dozens more injured. Police in the southern city of Regensburg said Sunday 46 cars were damaged in a highway pile-up a day earlier that left 17 people injured.
According to German news agency ddp, across the southern state of Bavaria, police registered more than 2,000 accidents. At least three people died. In the north-eastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomer-ania, three more people died in traffic accidents on icy roads. Regional police spokesman Dieter Betzold said an avalanche in the Bavarian Alps killed a backcountry skier Sunday after it engulfed four people at the Grosser Traithen mountain, near Oberaudorf.
