Sindh Governor's monitoring team while inspecting ongoing construction projects at the University of Sindh on Monday have emphasised the completion of construction projects within given time schedule and regular efforts for greenery at the campus.
The team comprising of Dr S M Qureshi as its head, Major Aftab Lodhi (Retd), Fazeelat Mehdi and Ms Afsheen Anis as its members also attended the briefing at the senate hall. The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal welcomed the monitoring team and said that regular visits to check the projects of the University by Sindh Governor's monitoring team gives feeling of partnership and added that feeling of partnership is also helps the transparency.
He informed that 11 construction projects were initiated and out of 11, 9 construction projects completed while remaining work is in progress which including construction work of the departments Faculty of Pharmacy. He said construction work of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Convention centre is in progress and construction work for boys hostel at campus would be initiated. He pointed out that work about purchase of land for Sindh University Campus at Mirpurkhas is under progress and added that for the purpose two sites has been selected.
The Advisor Planning and Development (P&D) Muhammad Hussain Shaikh informed the team that in year 2003 the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved 11 projects for the amounting Rs 1432.952 million while for the propose Rs 906.875 million were released by HEC.
He informed that out of 11 construction projects the University has completed 9 construction projects and remaining work is in progress. He further informed that CDWP in year 2005 approved projects with the amount of Rs 498.426 million for development schemes of Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and new administration building of the University.
He further informed that 40 scholars have been sent abroad for Ph.D, equipment were purchased and installed at the centre of pure and applied geology. He informed that under an mega project CDWP also approved the project under HRD with the cost of Rs 491.601 million in October 2008 for sending 69 scholars abroad for Ph.D and pointed out the HEC has released Rs 40 million in first phase on Monday (March 8, 2010).
Dr S M Qureshi and Major Aftab Lodhi during briefing pointed-out that delay in completion of construction projects is badly affecting academic activities and emphasised that in future the University must care the completion of projects within time. The team also inspected site selected for construction of new boys hostel as funded by the Government of Sindh.
The team inspected on-going construction work of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Convention Centre at main road of the Campus. The team advised the University management for construction of University's a beautiful gate at the main road of the campus. The briefing was attended by Pro Vice Chancellors Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Deans of the Faculties, Director Finance, Registrar, Controller of Examination and others.
