'Audit helps enhance economic growth'

The Additional Auditor General of Pakistan Asif Usman Khan has said that presently the demand for accountability, transparency in government transactions and optimal performance has re-emphasised the performance auditing techniques to achieve the desired results.
He was addressing the participants of the five-week 78th International Intensive Training Programme in Performance Auditing here on Friday. The Performance Audit Wing of the Department of the Auditor-General of Pakistan, Lahore has organised the event, which was also attended by the senior officials of the Pakistan Audit Department.
The course was commenced on February 13 and would be concluded on March 13, 2010. Asif Usman Khan said the performance auditing techniques ensure better accountability, efficient utilisation of resources and reporting on the critical areas for wastage and utilisation of resources, ultimately leading to good governance and effective service delivery.
In fact, audit has a very effective role in achieving a country's goals of economic growth and development, he added. He also delivered the message of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP). As many as 14 Audit managers of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Turkey, four from Yemen, three from Kuwait, one from Iraq, three from Iran and each while 4 middle audit managers of the Department of the Auditor-General of Pakistan are taking part in this auspicious training program. Director General Performance Audit Wing Tahir Mahmud also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the salient features and importance of the training course.
