KCCI, KCAA concerned over FBR's move to roll back PaCCS system

18 Mar, 2010

A joint meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) has expressed concern over the reported move of Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) to roll back the Pakistan Automated Customs Computerised System (PaCCS).
In a press release issued here on Wednesday they emphasised that this would severely hamper business activities and result in delay in clearance and financial losses to importers in the form of demurrage and detention charges.
They urged that arbitrary actions should be stopped and no change amendments should be made without consultations with stakeholders and trade bodies. They recommended that instead of discontinuing with PaCCS system, problems and difficulties in the system, if any, be examined and removed.
They unanimously decided that unilateral decisions would not be accepted. All the stakeholders and trade bodies should be consulted and taken on board before issuing any notification/ruling/guidelines in this connection. It was further decided that IGM index should be optional for all and should be available on website and importers should be free to file GD either in PaCCS area or non-PaCCS areas.
Vice-Chairman of Businessmen Group and former President, KCCI, Haroon Farooki, acting President, KCCI, Rasheeduddin Rashid, Vice-President, KCCI, Javed Ahmed Vohra and managing committee of KCCI welcomed and applauded the President of KCAA, Saifullah Khan for cooperation and struggle for business community.-PR
