NWFP government mulling to start TV channel: minister

NWFP Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that the significance of media is an established fact and in present critical circumstances its importance has increased manifold adding Frontier government is mulling over establishing its own TV channel.
This, he stated, while inspecting under-construction building of Information Office Islamabad at Pukhtoonkhwa House, Islamabad. Mian Iftikhar said that the provincial government was mulling to start its own TV channel and the government was in close contact with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this regard.
He added that restructuring of Information Department and a project of establishment of TV channel and extension of Radio Broadcast to the entire province has been included in the coming Comprehensive Development Strategy of the provincial government.
The Information Minister said that government was thankful to media for supporting it in war against terrorism, extremism and militancy in the province adding that media had a great role in the successes of security forces in restoration of peace in Malakand Division particularly in Swat.
He maintained, keeping in view the importance of media in the present era, the provincial government has decided to activate and harmonise the Information Department and equip it with latest facilities. Mian Iftikhar continued that special funds have been earmarked in ADP for equipping Information Offices at divisional level and acquisition of land was being underway for constructing modern information offices in the province.
Similarly, test transmission of Radio Pukhtoonkhawa has been started and its regular transmission would be started very soon. He added that broadcasting capacity would be extended to the entire province for bringing peace and defeating militancy and extremism in the province.
