Only 40 percent schools have well equipped libraries

Only 40 percent schools have well equipped libraries while 25 percent enjoying the facility of proper auditorium. It was revealed through a brief survey on co-curricular activities at various schools conducted by Centre for Civic Education.
According to findings, about 56 percent schools have platforms like boys scouts and girl guides while about 62 percent are involved in some kind of community work. The trend of community work exist more in the private schools.
Almost all schools begin the day with an assembly of the students and teacher. Verses from the Holy 'Quran' and prayer are recited. Occasionally teachers and students make speeches on any moral and an education topic.
According to survey, 97 percent arrange Qirat (recitation of Holy Quran) 'Naat' (competitions). About 96 percent feature speech competitions, 96 percent hold contest of singing national songs, 87 percent carry out inter-schools activities, 94 percent arranged sports activities. About 62 percent schools co-operate with non-government organisations in various activities. These activities are most of the time confined to awareness seminars and speeches and usually are one time engagement for a day.
However about 69 percent government schools said they co-operate with non-government organisations only after proper permission from the education departments.
