Police along with other law enforcement agencies on Wednesday conducted operation to nab suspected persons, arresting more than 60 in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Most of the detained are Afghan nationals living in the twin cities without having any legal document and were unable to prove their identity.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (operation) Rawalpindi Yaseen Farooq informed media that search operation was especially launched against the suspects in the adjacent areas of General Headquarters, in the jurisdiction of Westridge and R A Bazar Police Stations.
The police and other law enforcement agencies combed Afshan Colony, Shala Valley, Misreal, Dhok Syeddan and its adjacent areas, he added. He said during the operation over 40 suspected persons were arrested and investigation is under way. Majority of the detainees are Afghan nationals illegally residing in Rawalpindi without any legal document, he added.
Besides Police, Elite force, CID and other law enforcement agencies conducted the raids. Similar operation was launched in the rural areas of Islamabad as a result, more than 20 persons were arrested, who failed to prove their identity, Islamabad Police sources said. The detainees are mostly Afghan nationals and investigation regarding their involvement in any terror act is under way.
