Power shortfall reaches 4,605 megawatts: DG Pepco

26 Mar, 2010

Director General Pepco Engineer Muhammad Khalid has said that the power shortfall has reached 4605MW with generation recorded as 10180MW against the demand of 14785MW. He was addressing a press conference at Wapda House here on Thursday. He said that power generation from thermal power plants of Jamshoro, Muzaffar Gharh and Guddu had declined because of aging factor. However, rehabilitation work on these plants had been started, which would be completed soon adding 350MW.
He said that water level in Mangla Dam was only 12 feet above the dead level. 'Power demand today was the highest in this season because of abnormally high temperature in the country', he observed. The DG said 1350MW power was saved last year by launching an energy conservation plan, including advancing the clock. To a question, he said that action would be taken against the power companies, which would fail to achieve their power generation targets.
