The top price for Kenya's benchmark grade AA coffee fell by about $200 per 50-kg bag at this week's auction due to a dip in quality as the season draws to a close, auction authorities and traders said on Wednesday. The Nairobi Coffee Exchange said AA grade sold at between $510 and $152 per bag from last week's $702-$223. Last week's top price for AA was a record high.
Speciality Kenyan coffee often sells at premium prices, although it is a relatively small producer globally. Grade AB sold for $453-$100 per bag, compared with $471 and $120 per 50-kg at last week's sale. NCE said 17,499 bags were offered, with 10,937 sold. All the coffee was sold for $2.95 million. The average price for the coffee sold fell to $221.33 per bag from $254.43 per bag previously.
