Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Syed Munawwar Hasan has welcomed the signing of draft of 18th Constitutional amendment by consensus by the Parliamentary Committee and has congratulated its chief Senator Raza Rabbani on the signing. Here on Thursday, he expressed hope that the amendment package would be acceptable to all the parties and the parliament would approve it unanimously, thus ending a crisis situation in the country.
He said efforts to undo the 17th constitutional amendment had been going on for the last two years during which differences between parties had cropped up on different occasions. The final approval of the draft by consensus after a deadlock was a healthy sign. He observed that the ANP had made the renaming of the NWFP an issue for quite some time and the agreement of most of the parties on the new name was a highly welcome move.
