Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy, Shaikh Mohammed Afzal has said that environment volunteers will be recruited from all 23 districts of Sindh to meet the manpower shortage of Environment Protection Department.
"These volunteers will contribute towards environment protection efforts by the department in their respective districts", he said while talking to various non-government organisations (NGOs) working in the field of environment.
He was of the view that present manpower of environment protection department is proving insufficient in maintaining regular contacts with and for environment monitoring of factories, pharmaceutical organisations, hospitals, district government organisations, civic agencies, power houses and representative associations of commercial and industrial centres. Therefore, he said, it has become imperative to recruit male and female desiring volunteers to work for environment control.
Afzal further said that these volunteers would be imparted required training in environment control by the department after which they would not only keep watch on environmental violations in their respective areas under the supervision of regional offices, but also submit report to them for legal action by technical committees. He asked NGOs to fully co-operate with the government for environment protection, identify violators and play their moral and national role in this regard.
