A soldier with Nato's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed on Sunday by an improvised bomb in troubled southern Afghanistan, the alliance said. "An ISAF service member died as a result of an IED strike in southern Afghanistan today," the force said in a statement, without specifying the victim's nationality or any other details.
The latest casualty brings the number of foreign soldiers killed to 145 so far this year, according to an AFP tally. Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have become the weapons of choice for the Taliban insurgents who were ousted from power in late 2001 by a US-led invasion of Afghanistan. Most of the casualties to Afghan and international troops are caused by IED strikes.
FMeanwhile, the interior ministry said four people - one man and three women - were killed on Sunday evening when their car hit a mine in Ghazni city, also in southern Afghanistan. Four children were also wounded, with one of them in a critical condition, the department said in a statement.
