The officials of sales tax and federal excise on Tuesday staged a protest against apathetic attitude shown by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) regarding their promotions.
The protesters led by Syed Wali-ul-Hasan, president, EOA, Najeebullah Jafferi, vice president, EOA, Abdul Shakeel Khan, general secretary, Shahid Khan, Iftikhar Hussain and Noor-ul-Hasan were shouting slogans against the board to express their resentment in this regard at the Regional Tax Office (RTO), Karachi here.
They said that after the establishment of Inland Revenue, the board has promoted BS-14 income tax inspectors to BS-16, which caused to raise disenchantment amongst the sales tax and federal excise officials. They said the Inland Revenue, which was formed through office memorandum has made income tax group null and void. They further said the administration of the income tax group was frozen after the harmonisation of all three taxes including income tax, sales tax and federal excise.
They dispelled the impression of having posts for income tax officers in new setup, saying that there is no designated post for income tax inspectors as all inspectors working in Inland Revenue are now recognised as inspectors of Inland Revenue.
They termed the decision of promoting BS-14 income tax inspectors to BS-16 as illegal, saying that the authority concerned has violated the rules and regulations to promote BS-14 income tax officers to BS-16 in the presence of BS-15 deputy superintendent of Inland Revenue.
They said the board is not following the legal procedures in the transfers and postings of Inland Revenue officers, which was not only against the presidential ordinance but also did not have legal status in the transitional phase of Inland Revenue.
