Government College University (GCU) will represent Pakistan at the World Digital Library (WDL) Conference to be held in June in Washington, United States. As many as 64 WDL partner institutions from 41 countries will take part in the deliberations at the Conference. However, the GC University Lahore is the only member institution from Pakistan.
A university spokesman said that GCU Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed would attend the conference. 'During the tour, he will also visit the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world, and also meet James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress, who is appointed directly by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate," the spokesman said.
The World Digital Library is a co-operative project of the Library of Congress, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), and partner libraries, archives, and educational and cultural institutions from the United States and around the world. The WDL interface operates in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. The actual documents on the site are presented in their original languages. GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab has expressed pleasure over the participation of GCU at the WDL conference.-PR
