Four German soldiers killed in Afghanistan

16 Apr, 2010

A German Defence Ministry official says four German soldiers were killed and five others wounded in an attack in northern Afghanistan. Deputy Defense Minister Ruediger Wolf said Thursday in a letter to members of parliament that a German patrol was attacked by militants near Baghlan. The letter obtained by The Associated Press said the soldiers' armoured vehicle was probably hit by a rocket.
Nato in Kabul said earlier that four international service members were killed in the north but did not give their nationality. Afghan police said heavy fighting broke out between the Taliban and a force of German, Afghan and other foreign troops.
