Partly Facetious: Difference between elected and appointed

16 Apr, 2010

"Britain goes to the polls."
"Indeed the Brits can vote for Larry, Moe or Curly Joe."
"The Three stooges hunh! So which one of the three ie Brown, Cameron or Clegg is Moe - you know the guy who keeps slapping the others around."
"Well there you have two contenders."
"Two only? Why not three?"
"Because we are talking of the Brits, and not Pakistanis!"
"I understand cultural differences but I don't understand what you are implying."
"I am implying that Clegg knows he is the underdog and that there is no way in hell that he would be Britain's next Prime Minister."
"I see and in Pakistani politics no one, but no one, considers that he or she will never ever become the Prime Minister. Even Imran Khan reckons that he can become the Prime Minister."
"Hey if Shaukat Aziz can become the Prime Minister of this country then why cant Imran I ask you."
"Indeed that's a good point. But there is a difference between elected and selected."
"Yes but here the selected can get elected."
"I give up. Going back to the Brits you reckon both Brown and Cameron think they are Moe?"
"Yes."
"What do you think?"
"I think they are both rather mediocre - boring and without charisma. Britain doesn't have a Clinton or indeed an Obama."
"That may have something to do with cultural differences."
"Indeed but don't tell the Brits that! They think they have the same cultural values and..."
"Ah yes the special relationship!"
"Indeed one sided that. Maybe the Brits can learn from our example."
"From being out of favour to being in favour?"
"Yes but with a whip always on our head."
"Keeps the recalcitrant in lone."
