Wealthy supporters trying to mount a bid for English soccer club Manchester United will this week lay out their plans to a group of about 50 potential investors, a person familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
The Red Knights, a collection of financial figures including former Football League chairman Keith Harris and Goldman Sachs chief economist Jim O'Neill, are working on a bid which newspapers have said is likely to be pitched at about 1.25 billion pounds ($2 billion).
However the Glazer family, the US sports tycoons who bought Manchester United for about 790 million pounds in 2005 against a wave of opposition from fans, have said the club is not for sale.
A Red Knights spokesman said the group was making good progress with its bid plan, but declined to say when it might table an offer. The Sunday Times newspaper said a formal offer could be launched next month.
Manchester United are currently second in the English Premier League, having closed the gap on leaders Chelsea to one point on Saturday, with three matches remaining.
