I would like to congratulate State Bank of Pakistan, Hyderabad office, on organising recently a Hari Mela at Mirpurkhas. It was a pleasant surprise for me and for other agriculturists that at last our central bank had realised the importance of agriculture in under pinning our beleaguered economy.
The economists of repute are of the view that owing to paucity of power to the industrial sector, our exports are likely to shrink further; therefore, the agri sector has had a pivotal role to support our economy in future, and it may offset the adverse impact of it by increasing its produce. It is heartening for us that the demand for the commodities is on the rise globally, presenting a rare opportunity for our exporters to explore new channels.
Thus in keeping with the changing realities, the SBP ably showcased at the fair its expertise in imparting the modern techniques for maximum yields, timely usage of pesticides by farmers and flowing credit lines from banks to the farmers. Therefore, the response of the farmers to the event was enthusiastic; thereby they gathered a lot of information and direction for increasing the productivity level.
While taking this opportunity, I would like to suggest to the SBP that it should continue to arrange such Hari Melas regularly at district headquarter levels and at far-flung rural areas of the province, for success of which an extensive publicity campaign should be launched on electronic media so that the majority of farmers may take part in such fairs. In the end, I would again felicitate SBP, Hyderabad, for organising a productive event.
