Police arrest Mufti Qavi after he managed to flee court

The police have managed to arrest on Wednesday Mufti Abdul Qavi from Punjab Highway hours after he fled the court following the rejection of his application by a district and sessions court in Qandeel Baloch murder case.

According to local media reports, Mufti Qavi was on his way to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa when he was arrested on the highway near Jhang.

On Tuesday, Mufti Qavi had appeared before the sessions court for the first time in connection with the murder case, however, the court had adjourned the hearing of the case till October 18 on his lawyer’s request. On Wednesday, court rejected his bail plea and issued an arrest warrant against him after which he fled from the scene.

Police have included Qavi’s name in Qandeel Baloch’s murder case on request of her father Muhammad Azeem. Though, the suspect has denied any involvement in the case multiple times.

Qavi’s membership from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was suspended due to the controversy surrounding the selfies he posed for with Qandeel. He was also suspended from the Ruet-e-Hilal committee due to the same reason.
