Jordan tenders again to buy 100,000 tonnes wheat-trade

19 Oct, 2017

The tender period closes on Oct. 25, they said.

A new tender had been expected after Jordan made no purchase in its previous tender for 100,000 tonnes on Wednesday.

Jordan has struggled to make purchases in a series of grain tenders in recent months, with traders saying uncertainty about new quality controls and payment terms has reduced participation in the teders by some major grain exporting houses.

Jordan has been issuing tenders for wheat and barley almost every week since the summer but has made few purchases, with some tenders attracting no offers from trading houses.

Jordan bought 50,000 tonnes of wheat in a tender on Oct. 4 but wheat tenders on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18 ended without a purchase.

Traders said they were watching developments as wheat for Jordan which was due to be loaded on a ship in Russia was said not to have met Jordan's specifications. Traders expect the shipment to be replaced with Romanian wheat.
