British Company Mott McDonald's Directors Clare Rhodes James and Neil Fanlkner called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Saturday. Matters regarding co-operation in various sectors including energy, bio-fuel, potable water and afforestation in the area of Cholistan came under discussion during the meeting.
Secretaries of Agriculture and Public Health Engineering departments were also present on this occasion. The Chief Minister said that the Punjab government was working on development of alternative energy sources and a separate Department for Energy had been established in Punjab for this purpose. He said that vast opportunities of investment in energy sector exist in Punjab and the government would extend all out co-operation to encourage the investors in this regard.
He said that provision of potable water to the people at large was of great importance because contaminated water was causing communicable diseases. He urged upon the British company's executives to invest in this sector as well. Shahbaz also directed Secretaries of Agriculture and Public Health departments to negotiate with the representatives of Mott McDonald, UK and submit their proposals after looking into the prospects of co-operation in various sectors.
