Wajih administers oath to KUJ (Dastoor) office-bearers

Former Justice Supreme Court Wajihuddin Ahmed has said enforcement of basic labour laws in the country is responsibility of the federal and provincial governments. He was speaking at the oath taking ceremony of newly elected members of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) (Dastoor Group) at Karachi Press Club on Saturday.
He said that slogan raisers of Roti, Kapra and Makan have not presented a single bill in the parliament for the welfare of labourers. Talking about 7th Wage Board Award, he said the followers of the issue were not taking it seriously. There was a need of unity among different media groups on Wage Board Award, he added. The issue of Wage Board Award should be addressed on war footing basis," he maintained.
He said as the Industrial Relations Ordinance 2008 lapsed, at present there is no industrial law in the country. Delivering vote of thanks, Syed Afzal Mohsin, the newly elected president of KUJ (Dastoor) said that the union would take the issues of Wage Board Award and life insurance of journalists with the owners of media organisations. He thanked Justice Retd Wajihuddin Ahmed, President KPC Imtiaz Khan Faran and Secretary Karachi Press Club A H Khanzada for their participation in the ceremony.
