The Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) is facing 36 percent line losses, which shall be reduced on monthly strategic plan and shall increase recovery up to 100 percent against the current recovery of 82 percent. This was stated by Pesco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Wali Khan while presiding over a meeting of the officers of the company here at Wapda House, Peshawar.
Following attended the meeting: Chief Engineer T&G Shahid Mehmood Khan, Chief Engineer Technical Mohammad Siddique Awan, Chief Engineer CSD Fazli Khaliq Khan, Chief Engineer Abdul Latif Khan, Director General Human Resources Chand Badshah Bukhari, Deputy General Manager Finance Anwar ul Haq Yousafzai, all Circle Managers & Deputy Managers.
He said that beside facing the challenge of law and order and being adjacent to tribal belt, the company is committed to give good performance. He said that workers are the precious asset of Pesco and they are like own kids "and if we care for them they will definitely work with devotion, sincerity, honesty and will work with the spirit to bring positive change at every level". He said that merit is their top priority for putting Pesco on the track of development and self-sufficiency.
He announced two-point strategy of long and short terms to bring the company out of the current financial crisis. The Pesco CEO in his maiden address to Pesco officers retreated his commitment that "with your co-operation we will work as a team to put Pesco on right track and to restore Pesco's lost image in general public, the principle of work, work & work will bring the desired change".
He said that "if we officers work with devotion, spirit and keep good relations with general public, then our subordinates will do the same and the desired goal will be achieved. By bringing improvement in our distribution system we can reduce line losses by 2 percent easily, and it is our firm commitment to reduce 2 percent line losses during 2010-11, 3 percent during 2011-12 and further reduction of 3 percent during 2012-13".
The CEO seriously viewed direct connections and hooks, and said that this is the basic reason of line losses which shall be eliminated at all costs to obtain reduction in line losses. He also stressed on Pesco employees to avoid illegal use of electricity and if any employee is found in misuse of electricity he will not be spared.
He said that those employees who are efficient and show better performance will be rewarded and those who are inefficient and dishonest will face the consequences. He directed Pesco HQ officers to extend full co-operation to field formations. He asked field formations' heads to contact him whenever they need, and directed to keep close watch on subordinate offices/officers and guide them for good results as proper guidance and good performance would enable them to sit at higher chairs of this company tomorrow. "Specially you must monitor revenue offices' performance and help them to solve customers' problems to improve performance and quality of service.
He stressed the field formations' head to provide all possible facilities to valuable customers and reduce their grievances. "No one is above the law and if anybody violates rules and regulations he will be dealt under strict disciplinary action". He asked Pesco officers to do something good and creative, to bring a positive change in Pesco for which "the province will be proud of you".
Later on he presided over another meeting of all SEs of Pesco. He was briefed over circles' performance for the months of March and April. He viewed very seriously the performance of a few divisions. The CEO gave "future plan" to them and directed all operation circle heads to improve their performance in the next two months of May and June and bring 3 percent reduction in line losses and ensure 100 percent recovery in these months.
In the month of July, Individual Circle Performance Review will be made and in case of non-achieving of given targets strict punitive action will be initiated. He directed Field officers to check all permanently disconnected premises personally and keep close watch on them as no one can live without electricity these days. Similarly, they must ensure payment from "running defaulters". He directed speedy provision of electricity meters and other necessary equipments to the customers. He also directed to fix a reasonable period for completion of all "deposit works." He stressed Pesco employees to serve the customers with respect and resolve their grievances at their doorsteps and to provide all possible assistance for redressal of their grievances and solution of their problems.
