Directorate General, Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I) of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Karachi has confiscated huge quantity of intraocular lens imported from India. Sources told Business Recorder on Thursday that credible information was received that a huge quantity of Indian origin intraocular lens have been imported and cleared from Air Freight Unit (AFU), Karachi, which is inadmissible for import as per the import policy.
In pursuance of information, some nine cartons containing 9600 intraocular lens of different sizes worth Rs 5.76 million approximately, which were imported and cleared by A.S Corporation, have been seized by the DGI&I, they said. The sources further said the investigation in this regard has revealed that the consignment was shipped from Ahmadabad through online facility of a private sky cargo.
In order to verify the veracity of the documents produced by M/s A.S. Corporation, the department has emailed a letter to the president of the company, who divulged that the copy of the supplier certificate and commercial invoice are bogus and fabricated, they maintained. Meanwhile, the DGI&I has also seized an unaccompanied baggage containing 35 cartons of miscellaneous foreign origin goods worth Rs 0.18million, which was cleared from AFU, Karachi.
