Call to boost revenue collection efforts

The member, Domestic Operations, (North) FBR Khalid Aziz Banth, has urged the officers to boost up their revenue collection efforts with integrity and utmost courtesy to the taxpayers. He also requested the Chief Commissioners and Commissioners to assist the FBR in achieving the revenue targets of the Organisation and to build up the image of the Inland Revenue Service.
He was addressing the Officers of 36th Specialised Training Programme (STP) Final passing out ceremony on Thursday at Directorate General of Training and Research (Inland Revenue). He appreciated the efforts of the Directorate General of Training and Research, Inland Revenue (DOT) for its services rendered for capacity building of officers in the fields of Income Tax, Sales Tax and Federal Excise Laws and Rules with the uplift of IT skills.
The ceremony was attended by the ex-Director Generals of DOT, Lahore namely S Mohsin Akhtar, Farooq Ahmad Malik, Shariq Mahmood and Haji Ahmad. The Director General, Abdul Wadood Khan and Additional Director General Shahid Hussain Asad addressed the participants of the final passing out ceremony and congratulated the probationary officers.
The extensive professional training in the field of Income Tax, Sales Tax and Federal Excise, Laws and Rules for the capacity building of the officers were highlighted during the address. The Director General also highlighted the priority given to Research by DOT.
The participants were informed about the research work done by the Inland Revenue probationers on black economy, accountability and viability of value-added Tax (VAT). The Director General also proposed to the Federal Board of Revenue to make this institute a degree awarding university on the pattern of National Defence University as the courses designed and the training imparted to the probationers in the fields of tax management and administration was of very high standards, including the areas of accountancy and business administration.
It was also explained to the participants that Information Technology training was a very strong area at the training institute because of high-tech IT labs available at the Directorate General of Training and Research. The Director General requested the Member, FBR to support the future vision of Directorate General of Training and Research regarding increased focus on research work, countryside tours of probationers, field trips and promotion of extra curricular activities and facilities at the DOT, Lahore.
The Director General and Additional Director General also advised the probationers to work with utmost integrity, truthfulness and enthusiasm for the service and facilitation of the taxpayers and that they must come out as facilitators of trade and business community.
They were advised to have a close watch on their staff and subordinate officers with regard to the anti-evasion and audit work so that they can administer and manage their revenue collection efforts without any incident or chance of harassment to the trade and businessman community.
