Syed Munawwar Hassan, Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami, has said the secular elements in the country were being strengthened under a conspiracy and the religious forces must unite to counter them. Addressing a workshop of the JI district Nazims at Mansoora on Monday, he however said the revival of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) had been made difficult because even if the JUI(F) came out of the government, the damage caused due to its presence in the government could not be retrieved.
He said, every body knew who had been supporting the government, which had made life a hell for the Fata people during the last two years. Drone attacks and military operations had killed thousands of innocent men and women and children, and around five million people had been made homeless in their own country.
Munawwar Hassan said the country was heading toward a revolution because elections had become meaningless. He said 86 percent of the people were against US interference in the country's affairs but this did not matter for the rulers. Rampant corruption, increasing US interference and IMF control on the country's economy clearly indicated that a revolution had become inevitable.
He said during the last two years, corruption and financial irregularities amounting to Rs 323 billion had been unearthed only in different ministries. Both the PPP and the PML-N had plundered the national wealth and transferred it out side the country. If only President Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif brought their wealth in foreign banks back, the country's economy could greatly improve, he said. Slating Prime Minister Gilani's attitude vis a vis the Supreme Court judgment nullifying the promotions of senior bureaucrats, he said the government attempt to bulldoze SC orders did not auger well for the country's future.
While Jamaat-i-Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, has said that a fresh 6 percent in electricity tariff would cause a steep rise in prices and ruin the national economy. Addressing the JI workers at Mansoora, he also opposed the imposition of Value Added Tax (VAT) in public interest and demanded annulment of different taxes levied with the Utility bills. He stressed that the pay and pensions of government employees be increased in proportion to the price hike.
