'People of Hazara may launch disobedience movement'

19 May, 2010

Former Speaker National Assembly, Gohar Ayub Khan has warned that the people of Hazara will launch civil disobedience movement, if the government did not respect voice of the people of Hazara. Talking to reporters here today, Gohar demanded of the government to announce Hazara as a separate province, respecting the ardent desire of the people of Hazara.
He pointed that 48 days had passed but killers of the innocent people in Abbotabad and Hazara are still at large. He demanded to register cases against the culprits and award them punishment under the law. He said the government had not taken the people of Hazara Division into confidence while renaming the NWFP as Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa. The renaming of NWFP to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa at one end is appreciated by people, but on the other, is strongly opposed by people of Hazara Division, altogether with Chitral and DI KHAN, with some exceptions.
The demand of people of Hazara Division collectively from every political party is of referendum and selection of renaming of NWFP or to make Hazara Division and related areas in favour of the idea of a separate province, Gohar Ayub maintained. He said People are looking towards the stance of 'Tahrike Hazara' on this severe issue, which has provoked and hurt every citizen of this area. Baba Haider Zaman, former MPA and MNA also said, "It may form into severe civil war if not ruled in a proper way."
He further said that people from all walks of life like students, professionals, labours, and many political parties stand united in this regard. Poverty and unemployment are more important issues, which should be resolved first but unluckily, government does not have any serious intention to eradicate poverty and unemployment in Pakistan. He said people want government to come and solve the issue.
