Construction of 12 dams: President seeks Chinese assistance

Minister of Water Resources of People's Republic of China Chen Lei and Minister for Agriculture Han Changfu separately called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the State Guest House, Beijing Thursday. Matters relating to mutual co-operation in the field of water conservation, water resource management, hybrid seed technologies, drip & sprinkling irrigation system and latest technologies adopted by China for maximisation of the agricultural products, were discussed during the meeting.
On the occasion, President Zardari appreciated the progress made by China in water resource management and agriculture sectors. He said that the latest technologies adopted by Chinese need to be emulated by Pakistan for taking maximum advantage in the agricultural sector.
He informed the ministers that the government of Pakistan is undertaking construction of 12 small and medium dams not only for conservation of precious water resources, but also for their effective and judicious use besides generation of power. He said that Pakistan welcomes Chinese assistance in construction of these dams.
Zardari said that during all of his visits to China, he especially focused on the agriculture sector, as there was a lot for Pakistan to learn from the expertise of China in this area. He said that the government was taking measures to persuade farmers for early adoption of latest technologies in the agriculture sector such as hybrid seed and drip & sprinkle irrigation system for maximising agricultural products on one hand, and conserving water resources on the other.-PR
