Workshop on 'investigative journalism'

13 Jul, 2010

Two-day workshop on "Investigative Journalism", organised by US Embassy for print and electronic media journalists Monday, focused on the responsibility of journalists to provide information that is accurate and is reported fairly and independently from the outside influences. The workshop was conducted by Donald Jay Morfoot Jr who is a Professional Emmy Award-winning TV producer/writer with international experience.
Later while replying to queries, Donald Morfoot said in democratic societies around the world, news media have come to serve an additional function as watchdogs on every segment of society. He said the central purpose of journalism is to provide citizens with accurate and reliable information they need to function in a free society. To another question, he said journalism is more than just the distribution of fact based information. Propaganda also may be based on facts, but those facts are presented in such a way as to influence opinions.
