Federal Law Minister Dr Babar Awan has said the aim of those who awarded tickets to fake degree holders for mid-term elections would not be fulfilled. He was addressing the People Lawyers Forum (PLF) at a local marriage hall here on Monday.
He said those who considered Asif Ali Zardari a political president, they were remnants of dictatorship and their own president had been working one and half year under a dictator. The minister said, "Mian Nawaz Sharif should contest elections and become an MNA or MPA to strengthen democracy and the PPP will help him and would not file a candidate against him."
He said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani were there to safeguard parliament and the law minister (he himself) was also present as a security guard of parliament and the present assemblies would complete their tenure. He said those talking about mid-term elections wanted to harm the constitution and the 18th amendment, however, they would fail in their designs. The minister said the PPP would abide by the Charter of Democracy during by-elections in Gujranwala, Bahawalpur and Lodhran.
