Environmental pollution: public awareness campaign vital to save masses

Commissioner Tahir Hussain has said public awareness campaign is vital to save the masses from hazards of environmental pollution. The commissioner said that maintenance of clean environment was our primary duty and they all should play our parts.
He said that a joint strategy by Punjab Environment protection department, department of environmental sciences GC University, Faisalabad Urban Transport Society (FUTS), local transporters, industrialists, city traffic police and other stakeholders were being involved to maintain clean environment in the city.
He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on "Environment and Pollution" held on Wednesday under the auspices of FUTS at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium. The commissioner said that if they did not control the factors causing environmental pollution the coming generations would have to face its consequences. He said that they should start taking environment saving initiatives from their homes and play their parts for this national cause.
Head of Environmental Sciences Department, GCU, Professor Ahmad Saeed Bhatti said that smoke emitted by vehicles damages the environment and the resultant emission of carbin dioxide causes lung, respiratory and others diseases including tuberculosis, asthma, cancer and psychological disorder. Furthermore, he said that to save the humanity from these fatal diseases they would have to take measures for ensuring clean environment.
City Traffic Officer, Sardar Asif Khan highlighted the role of City Traffic Police and urban traffic management for maintenance of clean environment. He assured that his department would extend maximum co-operation to organisations working for creating safe environment in the society. District Officer Environment, Javed Iqbal, ACR Shafqat Ullah Mushtaq, Afzal Khaksar and Abid Kamalvi also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of clean and pollution free environment.
